FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Jr. Team #13877, “Team Deluxe” of Plainview, winner of the Model Design Award at the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo at Mineola High School on March 2, has been invited to participate in the FIRST World Festival in Detroit in April.

(Middle Island, NY) — For two days, hundreds of students, parents and volunteers convened for learning, technology and fun at this year’s FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO® League Jr. Expos. The events were held on March 2 at Mineola High School and March 3 at Longwood High School.

During the two Expo days, children ages six to nine from teams across Long Island presented their projects for this year’s challenge, MISSION MOONSM, in which children discovered what space travel is all about. While exploring this theme, teams studied rocket ships as they built a LEGO model that represented their solutions to big questions about space travel, such as what astronauts eat and drink, how they breathe, and what they do for fun. They also learned to present information through a Show-Me Poster. Throughout their experience, teams operated under the signature set of FIRST Core Values.

FIRST LEGO League Jr. gets these young children interested in science and engineering at an early age,” said Rick Ramhap, Co-Director, FIRST LEGO League Jr. “More and more teams join the program each year and it is so rewarding to see so many new students develop a love of science and technology.”
